Laura Barkla
Provisional Psychologist

Laura is a provisional psychologist who is currently in the process of completing her two-year internship towards general registration. Laura completed her studies at both Griffith University and University of the Sunshine Coast and achieved First Class Honours.

While Laura has experience working across the lifespan, she has had extensive experience working with both children and families as she worked in the childcare setting while in high school and all throughout her university years. It was during this time that Laura achieved her Cert III in Early Childhood Education and her passion for children, helping others, and for early intervention grew. Laura supports clients experiencing low-self-esteem, social difficulties, emotional regulation difficulties, anxiety, depression, ADHD, ASD, trauma, grief, loss and works alongside families to come up with tailored strategies to meet each individual child’s needs.

Laura utilises a client centred, evidenced based approach to therapy, and also tries to make all therapy activities fun and engaging for each child through incorporating arts, crafts, physical movement, and specific resources that cater to the clients likes and interests. Laura is passionate about supporting young people and their families to understand various behavioural, social, and emotional difficulties. Laura enjoys working with parents, teachers, other allied health professionals, and medical professionals to provide the most collaborative and holistic support for each child.
